I’m a huge believer in the power of tiny steps to take you wherever you want or need to go. Tiny steps will get you there slower, sure, but at least they’ll get you there. And in the end, that’s the goal, right? To get where you most want and/or need to be.
So if you need permission to let yourself take tiny steps, read this. Now, let yourself go as slow as you want because:
1. You’ll have less fear.
The smaller the steps you take, the less fear you’ll have. If any step you’re taking is too scary, all you have to do is make it smaller until it doesn’t scare you at all or it scares you a lot less. The less fear you have, the more likely you are to start. And to get to where you most want/need to be, you must start.
2. Less fear means you’ll keep moving.
The less fear you have, the more likely you are to keep going in the direction you want/need to go. All you have to do to keep moving is take a tiny step. And then another. And another. And if you get scared at any point, just make the next step smaller and keep on going.
3. Keep moving means you don’t quit.
The less fear you have, the more likely it is that you won’t abandon yourself and quit. And to get what you most want to have/be/do/say, you have to go all the way through to the end. You must finish. And if you ever feel like quitting when the path you’re on deeply matters to you, well, just make your next step so small that you could do it without batting an eye, then go do it. Then do the next tiny step. And the next. And the next . . .
4. Don’t quit means you will get to where you’re going.
The less fear you have, the more likely you will arrive at what you most want to have/be/so/say. And that’s what we all want, to make it to a life that matters to us, to make it to a life we love. So let yourself go slow. Don’t let fear derail you. Grab someone’s hand if you need to. Take a deep breath. Resolve to not stop. And just keep moving in the direction of what will make you happy and fulfilled.
So are you willing to go slowly and not stop?
