1. You’re doing it for you because you’ve got to find your own path.
You won’t ever find that path, sweetheart, by looking around and trying to follow the path others are on or by asking others if the path you’re on is the right one or by hoping for others to give you the okay to forge your own path. Only way you’ll find your own path is by listening to your own self and doing what you know you need to do to get to where it is you most want to be.
2. You have no guarantee that they’ll stay.
People come into your life and then they leave. So remember this: you don’t need their permission. You don’t need to impress them. You don’t need to prove yourself to them. You don’t need their accolades or praise or anything else that you might be telling yourself you need in order to feel complete and/or move on with your own life. Why? Because no matter who they are, they won’t be around forever.
Sorry to say, but that’s the truth. And all the time you spend waiting for them to give you what it is you’re looking for from them is just that: all the time you spend waiting . . . and waiting . . . and waiting. And all that time waiting is all that time you can’t ever get back. So wish them well, let them go, and get busy chasing (& catching) your own dreams.
3. You are the reason why.
You’re the only one that gets to decide what you do with your time. We’re all exchanging our lives for something. So the only question you need to be asking when the time comes to make a choice is this: Does this matter to me? Because if the answer is no, well, there’s your answer regardless of what they, whoever they are, might say. And if the answer is yes, well then darlin, that’s reason enough to pursue it.
4. You’re doing it for you because you know you better than anybody.
You don’t need anyone else to tell you what you want for your life. You’ve got an intuition for a reason, sweet pea. It’s there to guide you if you’ll just listen to it. And that’s what you’ve got to do, listen to it and not to them. You know what you most want. You do. You also know what you need to do to get it. You’ve lived with yourself all these years; you know who you are. Yes, you do.
5. You’ve got to learn some things on your own.
They can’t go through it for you. You’ve got to learn how strong, tenacious, intelligent, and courageous you are. You’ve got to prove to yourself that you’ve got everything it takes to make it in this life already inside you. You’ve got to believe that you can’t be broken, ever. You can’t be crushed. You’ve got to decide that it doesn’t matter what happens to you, you can’t ever be small and worthless and useless and less than. You can’t be any of those things because your worth and value are innate. You got those things the moment you were born and there isn’t a person in this world that can take them away from you.
Another great post! This is all very much true. Too often I’ve seen people not do what they were born and gifted to do because they allowed someone else or a false belief hold them back or derail them. I’m guilty of that myself, but I’m learning. This post is helpful to keep it all in check.
Hi lovely Heather! Thanks for the compliment. Made me smile this evening. I’m so glad to hear that you’re learning to do what you were born and gifted to do. I think the world would be a happier and more peaceful place if more people would let themselves do what they love. 🙂
Love this post! I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to see your “writing and words” again, Shelli.
