An Enlightening Lesson In Weight Loss, Fear, & Why The Universe Is A Friendly Place

Lesson for your weight-loss journey

You’ll learn many lessons on your journey to weight loss. Here are a few of them that I’ve learned on my way to losing 174 pounds and maintaining that loss for 9 years and counting.

I believe the universe is a friendly place that’s always trying to help you. Here’s why:

Writing my weight-loss book was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I had to let myself be vulnerable and honest in a way I usually avoid. I had to offer healing to strangers with no idea of the outcome.

When I started writing it, I had two quotes on my desk. One of them was this:

Just when the caterpillar thought its life was over, it became a butterfly.

That caterpillar was in fear. It thought there was nothing left for it. It thought it was too late and it wanted to give up and just wait to die.

First lesson in weight loss: you’ll want to quit

I spent 4 years writing Start Where You Are Weight Loss®. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to quit.

  • Every time I felt emotionally exposed.
  • Every time I had thoughts of self-doubt.
  • Every time I let fear creep in (what’s the outcome going to be, what if I can’t finish it, what if no one reads it, what if, what if, what if)

Second lesson in weight loss: you’ll get what you need

And every time the wanting to quit got really bad, that quote showed up in my life.

  • It was on a greeting card somebody sent me.
  • Then it was on a paperweight I walked past in a store.
  • It was on a sign taped in a restaurant window as I walked in.
  • Later, it was scrawled on someone’s notebook at the table next to me in the coffee shop.

And on and on it went with that quote showing up over and over just when I needed it most.

 

 

Third lesson in weight loss: all you have to do is keep going

I like to think it was the universe looking out for me.

I also like to think that Start Where You Are Weight Loss® was meant to be written so I got what I needed to keep me going.

I share all that to say this: whatever your chrysalis feels like right now (dark, damp, cold, smothering, or suffocating), I just want you to know that it’s not the end . . . all you have to do is keep going, even if it’s just one tiny step at a time, and something amazing and awe-inspiring will be on the other side.

Turns out, the best way to lose weight was to find out what works for me and do that.

  • I’ve lost 160+ pounds naturally by simply trusting myself and listening to my intuition (mindful eating and eating intuitively).
  • I have maintained that weight loss for 9 years and counting by trusting myself and listening to my intuition (mindful eating and intuitive eating).
  • I no longer have any eating disorders, including bulimia (bulimia nervosa) and binge eating disorder (compulsive overeating).
  • I no longer have a fear of food.
