Here’s something I know from experience: It’ll be hard for you to live out what you believe if your thoughts say one thing and your actions say something different.

When it comes to weight loss, you have the authority over food. You choose what kinds of foods you put in your body and how much and when. Those choices are always up to you.

To be the authority at weight loss: Stop dieting

I know that can sometimes be challenging for people who have dieted for any length of time because they’re used to someone else telling them what to eat and how much and when.

It can be challenging if you’re accustomed to rules and guidelines and a clearly-defined path with rigid boundaries and no deviations. It can also be challenging because all that structure can become a habit and so it feels familiar and safer than trusting yourself and figuring out what works for you.

But that’s precisely why dieting doesn’t work.

Diets are created by someone who is likely a stranger to you and probably doesn’t even know who you are. That person cannot possibly tell you what your particular body needs at any given moment.

You have lived in your body your entire life. You have learned about yourself all these years. You know your body best of all. Oh yes, you do.

Sometimes people in authority may tell you things that are true for them, but that doesn’t mean those things are true for you. Sometimes you might hear an expert tell you what’s best, but that’s what is best for them and worked for them; that might not be what’s best for you and what works for you.

That’s why you need to start trusting yourself.

To be the authority at weight loss: Keep trusting yourself

You are absolutely trustworthy.

You know yourself better than anyone else. You can trust that your body will tell you what it needs. You can trust that you will give yourself what you need. You can trust that you have what it takes and are capable of reaching whatever goals you set for yourself. Oh yes, you can!

You can also trust that you are worth whatever time, money, effort, focus, and resources it takes to do what you need to do for yourself and to reach whatever matters to you.

 

 

To be the authority at weight loss: Trust yourself implicitly

You need to trust yourself implicitly so you can claim ownership of the fact that you’re the authority in your life.

  • When you trust yourself, you stop thinking that others know you better than you know yourself.
  • When you trust yourself, you stop looking outside yourself for answers.
  • When you trust yourself, that’s when you’ll finally set yourself free.

To be the authority at weight loss: Change your mind

You are trustworthy. You are the authority in your own life. And if you don’t believe those two statements then all you have to do is change your mind.
