Stop Sabotaging Yourself So You Can Keep The Weight Off

You really need to stop sabotaging yourself so you can keep the weight off. A lot of people are afraid to give up dieting and/or abusing food because it’s taken up so much time in their lives. They may feel that fear consciously. Or that fear could be lodged in their subconscious so it’s driving their behavior even if they don’t necessarily understand why. I used to be one of those people. Maybe you’re one of them too.

To stop sabotaging yourself to keep the weight off, take note of time & identity

You may have spent much of your life weighing and measuring food, counting calories or fat grams or some other nutrient, reading ingredient panels, going to weight-loss meetings, watching videos, reading self-help books, and on and on the list goes.

There’s also all the time you may have spent thinking about and/or obsessing over food, beating yourself up over how much you ate, congratulating yourself for how little you ate, weighing and measuring yourself, chasing the latest diet fad, and on this list goes too.

You also may have spent much of your life with an eating disorder and/or with a community of people who also suffer from an eating disorder. You may identify yourself as a bulimic, compulsive overeater, anorexic, or whatever disordered eating pattern you have.

You may get afraid, as I once was, because your life has revolved around food and eating for so long that you may think it’s your identity. You may have convinced yourself that food and everything around it makes you who you are. You may be terrified of how you’ll define yourself. Just who will you be without all the fear/obsessing/thoughts/etc. about food?

You also may be afraid of what to do with all that time.

A lot of women I’ve coached have been afraid of what they are going to do with their lives once food and everything around it takes up less space in their days. Some of them said it was consuming upwards of 80% of their thought-life and their time. They got scared they wouldn’t know how to fill that time with other things. I know how that feels because that used to be my fear too.

 

 

To stop sabotaging yourself to keep the weight off, overcome your fears

If those are your fears, subconscious or not, you will likely sabotage yourself and your weight-loss efforts when you get close to or reach your goal weight. To keep the weight off, you really need to address those fears and take action to overcome them so you don’t find yourself in a cycle of losing the weight only to gain it all back again.

You may tell yourself that you don’t know why you’re regaining the weight, but the truth is that you’re overeating and/or abusing food to avoid fear. The great news is that you can overcome that fear by simply choosing what other things you’d like to do with your time. You also can overcome that fear by choosing just who you want to be.

To stop sabotaging yourself to keep the weight off, choose differently

When food no longer takes up so much of your life, you can choose to fill that time with your passions, goals, and dreams instead. You can also choose just who you’d like to become. That’s why it’s so important that you find what makes you come alive and go do it. To keep the weight off, you need to let what brings you joy and fulfills you fill up that space that food once took up in your life.

You’ll come to find that once you do that, the fear of not knowing what to do with your time and/or losing your identity won’t be so overwhelming. You’ll also come to find that food will return to its rightful place in your life, as fuel for your body so you can go do those things that make you feel the most alive.

  • I’ve lost 160+ pounds naturally by simply trusting myself and listening to my intuition (mindful eating and eating intuitively).

  • I no longer have any eating disorders, including bulimia (bulimia nervosa) and binge eating disorder (compulsive overeating).
