To lose weight quicker, realize that patience really is your friend. It’ll serve you well in weight-loss and in the rest of your life. Look, I realize that patience is the strong suit of very few people, myself included. But you really do have to acknowledge that it took you some time to get to where you find yourself today. It’s gonna take a bit of time to get the weight back off, and that’s okay. Here are some things to keep in mind.

To lose weight quicker, be patient with the process

For starters, don’t think you’re alone in wanting what you want right now. You’re not. In fact, you’re in excellent company with the rest of us who don’t like to wait. The reality is, though, that losing weight in a healthy and sane way is going to take a little while.

If you don’t have patience with the process, you’re going to cause all kinds of strife and struggle in your life. If you’re not patient, you’ll end up with a war going on inside yourself caused by what you want right now versus the reality of what’s actually happening in your life. And there’s never any peace when there’s a war going on inside of you. It’s that lack of inner peace that causes you to want to abuse food or overeat.

So the first thing you’ve got to do is accept that you are where you are in your life right now, and that’s okay.

To lose weight quicker, be patient with yourself

The second thing you need to do is be patient with yourself as you learn and change so you can get the weight off and keep it off. And you’re really going to have to do both those things: learn and change.

You need to learn how you got to where you are today and then you’ve got to use that knowledge to change how you do things so you can create the body that you want. That’s going to take some time, which is why you need to be patient.

Once you start losing patience with yourself, it likely won’t be very long before you start getting frustrated with yourself and beating yourself up. That self-abuse will also have you overeating or abusing food to numb yourself. Honestly, using food in a way it was never intended to be used is never gonna get you to where you want to be. It just isn’t. Ever.

So just choose to practice patience with yourself instead. The great news is that patience is like anything you practice, so you’ll get better at it the more you do it.

 

 

To lose weight quicker, practice self-compassion

And finally, keep in mind that self-compassion is what you most need to heal yourself. A major part of self-compassion is being patient with yourself. You’ve got to love yourself enough to give yourself unlimited tries. That really is the only way you’re ever gonna grow and thrive, at least that’s been my experience.

You really will get the weight off much easier, quicker, and with a lot less stress and a lot more joy if you’ll just practice patience and use your time learning some things about yourself. So while you wait, answer these questions:

  • What do you believe about food and its role in your life (because you always live out what you believe)?
  • Why are you choosing to live in a body that doesn’t feel comfortable to you (and it is a choice, I say gently)?

If you want to get the weight off and keep it off, which I know you do, then you’re gonna need to answer those questions at some point. So do yourself a kindness and use the time you’ve got right now.
