A lot of weight-loss diets will promise you that you’ll lose weight fast. Here’s what they don’t tell you: you likely won’t be able to keep the weight off.

I get the patience is the strong suit of very few people, myself included. Trust me on this though, after over 20 years of yo-yo dieting and losing the weight only to gain it all back again, I can tell you without a doubt that the last thing you want is to lose weight fast only to gain it all back again. There are a myriad of reasons for that, but here are the top three.

Reason 1 Not To Lose Weight Fast

Those lose weight fast diets are likely really unhealthy for you. They are likely all about calorie deficits and making sure you eat the least amount of calories possible. They are not about meeting your body’s nutritional needs. They are not about listening to your body at all. They are all about starving your body to get to an end result. Here’s the problem with aiming for an end result at any cost: if you can’t keep the weight off long-term, then you’re just a hamster on a wheel, working really hard and in the end getting nowhere.

 

Reason 2 Not To Lose Weight Fast

Gaining the weight back after you stop the diet will likely leave you feeling shamed and humiliated. That’s how I always felt after I regained the weight. I went from socializing and feeling confident when I was more comfortable in my body to gaining the weight back and hiding in my house because I felt like a failure and that there was something wrong with me because I couldn’t keep the weight off.

Reason 3 Not To Lose Weight Fast

You’re not listening to your own self and your own body’s needs. Instead you’re listening to someone else’s rules. That other person or people or corporation, whoever they are, doesn’t know YOU. They don’t know:

  • your activity level 
  • The foods you like
  • The foods you don’t like
  • The foods you’re allergic to and/or need to avoid for other medical reasons.
  • Any particular issues you have with regards to food and nutritional needs.

All they know is how to drastically cut your caloric intake so that you’ll lose weight fast.
