So I don’t know about you, but sometimes the holidays are stressful. I’m an introvert so I get anxiety about going to big social events, especially with a bunch of people I don’t know. Then there’s the inevitable family gathering where somebody starts an argument and the whole mood in the room goes tense. So this tip will help you prioritize yourself and your needs so you can stop overeating or abusing food at holiday events. The tip is this: Do Something That Nourishes You & Speak Strength To Yourself
Things that are nourishing to you make you feel comforted and loved. They also make you feel happy to be alive and excited about your life. These are things that have nothing to do with food or any other substance or behavior you may abuse.
So do yourself a kindness and make a quick list of things that nourish you. Then keep that list handy so you can easily pick something off it when the time comes.

And while you’re doing nourishing things for yourself, speak strength to yourself. You do that by telling yourself what you need to hear at any given moment that’ll encourage you.
You know yourself best and you know what would most help you feel better or more relaxed at any particular time.

So for any holiday event that you’re anxious about (especially if you’re overeating at just the thought of it):
1. Do nourishing things & speak strength to yourself BEFORE the event.
2. Take breaks, do nourishing things, & speak strength to yourself DURING the event.
3. Do nourishing things & speak strength to yourself AFTER the event.

It’s really imperative that you take excellent care of yourself during the holidays (and the rest of the year too). If you choose not to do things that nourish you and speak strength to yourself, you will end up overeating or abusing food to cope, numb, avoid, and the list goes on.
Do yourself a kindness and don’t do that to yourself. Just choose to encourage yourself and do things that nourish you instead.
